ABB Wins Consulting Order to Increase Power

Asset Management Services Will Help Track Critical Equipment

Zurich, Switzerland, September 15, 2003 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today announced it has won an order to help International Transmission Company in the United States manage its power transmission assets.

ABB asset management services will help International Transmission Company track the condition of all its critical substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, batteries and relays. ABB will also help International Transmission Company to schedule and track the status of maintenance activities.

"Helping our utility customers manage their assets is increasingly important, as the issue of grid reliability is studied," says Rana Mukerji, General Manager of ABB Electric Systems Consulting.

To help asset-intensive companies manage their installed assets more effectively, ABB has developed a system called Advise IT Asset Sentry. Using Asset Sentry, ABB can help utilities make more efficient use of their operating and capital expenditure, while allowing them to improve the reliability of their systems.

International Transmission Company's assets that ABB is helping to manage include 28 substations, 43 transformers, 700 breakers, more than 8000 relays, 50 battery systems, 200 buses, 12 reactors and more than 50 RTU SCADA Systems. ABB will help International Transmission Company with data collection, integration and analysis, decision-making and work execution. "We look forward to the opportunity of working together with ABB to enhance the efficiency and reliability of our transmission system," states Joseph Dudak, VP Asset Management of International Transmission Company.
